We Made It!!!

This is my first blog from our new home.  We left for Aberdeen, Scotland on Saturday morning 07 March 09. The shuttle came and picked us up from Grandma & Grandpa's house. The night before Saren, Mike and the boys came for dinner.  When it was time to leave it got a little sad and some tears were shed by adults and kids. I think we did pretty good when we had to say goodbye to Grandma and Grandpa. I thought it would be really bad but I was preparing myself for this and I didn't want to drive away crying. I thought that would be worse for the kids if they saw me crying. I was right but found out later on in the trip....

So we got to the airport and we ate some lunch. Alex was getting sick and he cried 1/2 the way to the airport...a prelude to a bad trip!!!  We gave him Emalee's DS and he was happy the rest of the way.
The first flight to LA they got us in the same row 3 & 3. That was good. Alex did ok but he cried alot.
We get to L.A. and we had to almost run across the parking lot to get to the International area. We were given separate Itenaries so we each had our own name, not a family name...so we were scattered throughout the plane. The kids were upset, we were upset, we were hot and tired and put in the galley while they figured out what to do with us.  We were the last people that checked in on a FULL flight. It took them over 20 minutes to get us seats somewhat together. So they had 3 seats right in front of a wall for myself, Emalee and Alex. It was the baby row. NO leg room or storage room in front or us or under us.  Then Christian , Reagan and Jimmy got seats together but about 5 rows in front of us. We couldn't even see them. There was a bathroom area in front of us and then more people.  So he had to deal with Reagan while I dealt with a cranky/sick baby. It was awful!! There were tears all around. How frustrating!!!

The flight to Amsterdam took forever!!! Alex did sleep here and there but he had his boughts of crying. They gave me this crib thing to put in front of my feet and his feet and I was able to put him in it a few times so I had some time without holding him. It seemed like we would never land.

From Amsterdam we did have some time to grab McDonald's and then get to the gate. Of course we were put all over the place AGAIN and they had to do what they could on another full flight. I can't believe how many people are still travelling!!  So the best they could do was 4 seats and then 2 behind them.  So Christian sad with Reagan and Emalee and Jimmy and I, with Alex on my lap sat behind them.  Luckily Alex and I fell asleep on that flight. I think he cried when he was awake but thankfully it wasn't that long.

The flight to Aberdeen was only about 1 hr 10 minutes. It went by fast!

We got to Aberdeen and had to get through Customs and some lady that worked there saw the 6 of us and took pity on us and rushed us to the front of the Customs line! That was GREAT!!!
We got our luggage and rental minivan. That was funny in itself. It's a mini-van MINUS the cargo space. We had a jogger stroller and 9 suitcases, some of them very large as well as carry on items. Needless to say we got everything in the van but it was VERY crowded and it looked very funny.

We got to the apartment/hotel place we are staying and it's actually kind of neat. I will have to take some pictures tomorrow.  It's a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment with a little loaded kitchen and tv room as well. It's pretty nice. AND they have internet so I'm happy :)

We finally got settled and went out to dinner and now we are all settling down for the night.

It was a very long day and we are glad Day 1 is over. We are going out tomorrow to get alot of things we need and to see our house. I will take pictures of that as well.
